1. Fibreglass – The interior of these sticks is made of wood and it is just the outer coat is made of fibreglass. So there is no real difference in their weight compared to the wooden kind.
2. Aluminum – It is hard to believe that a stick that weighs quite a bit less than the wooden variety is also pretty strong. Certainly if you are someone who is just taking up the sport then this may be your best option.
3. Graphite – Just as with the fibreglass type of roller hockey sticks this material is used to cover a wooden core. However, some are also made completely from this material and again are pretty strong but weigh a lot less than conventional wood ones.
4. Kevlar – This is a material that has found many uses in many activities. In motorcycle racing it is used in their helmets, gloves and leathers to provide protection should they fall from their machines. This again is a very lightweight material but also very durable. Some roller hockey sticks are made completely from this material including the shaft, whilst for others it may just be the blade.
